Best Telephoto Lens For Wildlife Photography

Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L is a high-performance L-series super-telephoto zoom that is the perfect choice for sports and wildlife photography.

It has a rotating zoom ring that provides a more precise composition and excellent balance when handholding. The closest focusing distance is 0,98 m. The lens’s air sphere coating significantly reduces flare and ghosting.

The lens is exceptionally resistant to dust and water, making it an excellent choice for adventurous photographers who spend a lot of time in nature. Images are razor-sharp, even wide open, and the maximum aperture is enough for shooting under low-light conditions.

The camera wants to hunt a bit more than I would like. I set the lens auto-focus to 3 m to infinity, which helps but doesn’t eliminate the problem. And that is probably the only thing I do not like about this telephoto lens.

EF 100-400 mm is excellent at four stops. I’ve taken shots with a single room light bulb, handheld, at 1/10 seconds, and images were as sharp as expected. Last but not least, the build of the lens is excellent.

This lens allows you to stop down to f/2.8, with a beautifully creamy bokeh and a very narrow depth of field. You can also go up the scale to enable more of your shot to get in focus.

The image quality from this lens is phenomenal. You will meet sharp images with wonderfully creamy bokeh produced by its 15 elements.

This macro lens creates the best bokeh I have seen in the macro lens, so you should know you will probably want to use it as a portrait lens.
