Are you an aspiring photographer, looking for Canon 7D lenses?

If you answered positively, you probably already own one of Canon’s most popular models.

Due to its popularity, there are quite many rumors about which are the best Canon 7D lenses.

In the field of information, it is increasingly difficult to pick the right optics. Because of that, I’ve come up with a list of the five best 7D lenses.

Before we get into it, let’s start with the camera. Canon 7D has an 18 MPx APS-C CMOS sensor, 8 fps continuous shooting, 1080p HD video, along a 19-point autofocus system. You can see the results of your work on a 3 inch LCD screen. The body also has environmental sealing for protection.

Without further a due, let’s find out what optics suits your Canon.

Best Prime
Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Lens
$949.00 $789.00

This is a top of the line lens from Sigma company with decent build quality that delivers best performance when it is used for shooting weddings and family portraits.

Sigma 50mm f/1.4 has the maximum f/1.4 aperture with f/16 being the minimum. The angle of view is 46.8 degrees, with a minimum focusing distance of 15.7 inches.

It comes with an Ultrasonic autofocus with full-time manual focusing. The lens also has three special low dispersion elements. The construction of the lens is phenomenal, and it even beats some of the “L” series lenses.

Furthermore, it is one of the fastest Canon 7D lenses you can get. It also does a wonderful job in separating subjects from the background, delivering beautiful bokeh.

Since the aperture is powerful, I was able to capture great images under lowlight, without using a flash. The pictures came out quite sharp, with excellent contrast and color transmission.

The focus speed and accuracy are on point as well, with a wonderful manual focus ring. I didn’t notice any distortion nor fringe while using the lens.

The design is professional, with sleek lines and an extraordinary lens cap. The only downside is the weight, especially because it is not a zoomable lens.

  • Powerful aperture
  • Extremely sharp images
  • Great focus system

Best Wide-Angle Lens For Landscape Photography

Best Wide-Angle
Canon 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 Lens

During the testing, I first noticed that the lens provides a high level of detail while retaining an excellent color balance.

Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 offers the closest focus distance of 9.5 inches with the circular aperture design which produces natural highlights. The best thing about the lens is the amazing coloring.

The lens brings wide-angle photography to the next level. I find this optics to be the best Canon 7D lens for interiors, ultra-wide angles, and general artistic purposes. It can breathe life into all of the images, while still preserving a great number of details.

The overall image quality is mesmerizing, with tack sharpness and free of chromatic aberration. The focusing system works without flaws, and it is reasonably silent, so the lens can be used for videos.

Since the lens has a versatile focal length, I can’t complain about the lack of image stabilization.

Even under low light, I didn’t face problems getting solid pictures. The design is satisfactory, with good finishing lines. It is quite compact and the lens can be used for walk tours while taking awesome photos.

  • Extremely wide
  • Great focusing system
  • Overall image quality

  • Limiting aperture

Best All-Around Lens For Everyday Photography

Best Wide-Angle
Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L Lens

It is constructed to be weather-resistant, so it repels water and dust. During the testing, I didn’t face issues regarding chromatic aberration or distortion.

Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 sets the closest focusing distance at 1.15 feet, with AD and aspherical elements providing superior image quality through the whole zooming range.

The lens has image stabilization which compensates for shaking, along with a large circular aperture. It also sports an Ultra-sonic motor for precise and fast focusing. It is the most versatile optics if you’re looking for Canon 7D lenses that can provide nearly everything.

The overall image quality is quite high. Although there are better choices in terms of sharpness or coloring, no lens in the category can match this type of versatility.

It is important to point that sharpness, coloring, and contrast are good, but they could be better. The focusing system works great, it is fast and very quiet.

It doesn’t compare to the STM, so be vary if you tend to use the lens for videography. The image stabilization is great and it is mandatory for handheld videos or stills at slower shutter speeds.

Unfortunately, the lens is quite big, and since it covers a wide range of focal lengths, it means it is long as well. The diameter is also quite big. Another shortcoming is the price, especially since it is an EF-S mount.

  • Versatility
  • Image stabilization
  • Solid aperture

  • Weight

Best Telephoto Lens For Wildlife Photography

Best Telephoto
Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L Lens
$1,699.00 $1,599.00

The lens is exceptionally resistant to dust and water. Images are razor-sharp and the maximum aperture is enough for shooting under low-light conditions.

Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 has the closest focusing distance of 5.9 feet. It also sports two image stabilizer modes and super UD glass elements which eliminate the secondary spectrum.

The focusing of the lens is super-fast. I quite admire the two focusing modes which allow faster focus when you shoot subjects in the distance. The images I’ve got with the lens are sharp and clear, with the great color distribution.

If you need a Canon 7D lens for wildlife photography, you don’t have to look elsewhere. It is compact and light, while still providing a great focal range.

Picture quality does tend to deteriorate at 400mm, but it is not a deal-breaker. It is very fast with accurate autofocus. The aperture is limiting to an extent, and the f/4 is sharper.

However, the overall performance of the lens is great. Additionally, the lens is capable of capturing beautiful macro shots with a solid bokeh effect.

On the negative side:

It is worth mentioning “trombone-style” zoom. It is not bad, but it gets tiresome to carry it around. The twist ring locks the lens and it is not as good as the lock you can see on other zoom lenses.

  • Focal length
  • Image stabilization
  • Versatility

  • Ring lock mechanism

Best Macro Lens For Macro Photography

Best Macro
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Lens

Image quality from this lens is phenomenal. You will meet very sharp images with wonderfully creamy bokeh produced by its 15 elements.

Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 is constructed with 15 elements in 12 groups. It offers a 23.4-degree diagonal angle of view, and the closest focusing distance of 0.99 feet. The maximum close-up magnification is 1x, and the lens’s inner USM focusing system offers a full-time manual focus mode.

The image quality of the lens is superior, even under dim light. I tried the excellent autofocus, but I adore manual mode even more. It allows me to get proper and precise control over images.

The image stabilizer is noisy, but I don’t consider it a major flaw. The build quality is solid, with enhanced plastic encasing and weather-sealing. It does feel solid, but not as good as other “L” series lenses.

The focusing ring works quite well, with wide and smooth motion. If you need an extraordinary Canon 7D lens for macro work, the narrow depth of field with this optics will blow you away.

I achieved great results at an f/2.8, with mesmerizing bokeh, although I preferred to stay at around f/3.5. Furthermore, my advice is to pair the lens with extension tubes if you plan to capture insect shots.

  • Superior image quality
  • Powerful aperture
  • Fast focusing

  • Heavy compared to the competition
