Trying to upgrade to a new Canon 90D lens in 202?

There are so many different kinds of lenses in today’s market.

For that reason, I made things simple in this ultimate Canon 90D lens guide.

Best Lenses for Canon EOS 90D

If you are a proud owner of Canon 90D, you are probably in love with the raw shooting and live-view autofocus this camera offers.

Besides an excellent 32,5 MPx APS-C CMOS sensor, seven fps burst shooting with continuous autofocus, and 4K/30p, Canon 90D has an optical viewfinder with continuous autofocus.

The mid-range camera from Canon offers a lot to photographers. However, it has its limits. If you are wondering if it is possible to enhance this gem’s capabilities, I assure you it is.

I have thoroughly tested Canon 90D with various lenses to find the best fit for the excellent and improved sensor.

The market in this range offers a lot, but only the best five Canon 90D lenses made a list. If you are eager to find out which are those, keep reading!

Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 Lens

In terms of image quality, it surpasses the competition in all regards. The bokeh effect is mesmerizing. It has a solid design and it falls into the lightweight category.

Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 comes in seven elements in six groups. Eight blades ensure smooth bokeh, while the minimum focusing distance sets at 17,8 inches.

The lens packs a Hypersonic motor for a silent and fast autofocusing performance while retaining a full-time manual focus capability. Although the lens lacks weather resistance, I had no problems operating it in dusty or wet conditions.

One of the best features of the lens is the superior bokeh effect. I was able to achieve extremely sharp images with a shallow depth of field at the maximum aperture.

The lens is one of the best I have used for artistic purposes, although it does require some adjustments when using an f/1.4 for portrait photos.

Since the shallow depth of field occurs, everything around gets blurred out if you focus on one spot.

So you will need to practice around if you want to shoot scenery with this lens. The clarity is fantastic when using this lens, and once you fully understand the lighting triangle when shooting, the possibilities with this lens are endless.

It also has a negligible lens and color distortion compared to other lenses I have tested for this round. For this price, there is no excuse not to own this lens. Buy it, and you’re guaranteed to improve your photo expression.

  • Superior bokeh effect
  • Extremely sharp images
  • Fast autofocusing

  • Not weather resistant

Best Wide-Angle Lens For Landscape Photography

Best Wide-Angle
Canon 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 Lenses

Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 is an ultra-wide zoom lens with a drive system lead screw and rack system driven by a stepping motor.

Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 sets the closest focusing distance of 0,22 m and has an optical image stabilizer and a stepping motor for noise-free video shooting. Although the lens is made of plastic, it does not look cheap.

The lens is durable and sturdy, with a nice finishing touch. Unfortunately, I have noticed ghosting issues in direct sunlight or under a chandelier, but I could resolve the problem in post-production.

One of these lenses ‘ best features is a consistent sharpness from edge to edge across all focal lengths. The image quality is entirely satisfactory, even at the maximum opening. The colors are rendered nicely, with a delicate balance of saturation.

I am generally a fan of manual focusing, but the autofocus did a flawless job in this case. It is accurate and fast, and I didn’t have any problems regarding hunting, even in low-light situations.

I also enjoyed the autofocus ring, which is an excellent ergonomic solution. Furthermore, the lens produces an incredibly shallow bokeh effect so that the lens can even be used for portrait photography.

If you don’t mind the plastic build and relatively low aperture, opt out for this EF-S lens, and you will get a high-quality optic.

  • Durable and sturdy
  • Good image quality
  • Vibrant colors

  • Ghosting issues in the direct sunlight

Best All-Around Lens For Everyday Photography

Best All-in-one
Canon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens

The lens has an image stabilization that gains four stops, and it packs micromotor-type autofocus without full-time manual focusing.

Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 comes with the closest focusing distance of 0,45 m and a maximum close-up magnification of 0,24x. The lens has a Micromotor for autofocusing without full-time manual focusing.

Furthermore, the optical image stabilization gains four stops of shake reduction. The best thing about the lens is its versatility. At 18mm, it’s a sprawling landscape lens at 200 mm. It’s a tremendous medium-range telephoto.

All the pictures I took with this lens came out crystal clear and sharp. The optics work pretty well as a wide-angle lens, but it is possible to take extraordinary telephoto images if you need a bigger zoom.

Furthermore, color rendering is fantastic, with vivid colors and excellent separations of warm and cold tones. One of the flaws of this lens is vignetting, which is most pronounced in the more extended telephoto range.

It is especially noticeable with a uniform background in color and lighting, such as a blue or overcast sky.

The lens also has a weighty front element, which may deter users who don’t like a tripod or carry a lens for more extended periods. Another minor annoyance is that the lens elongates if you point it down without locking it.

However, considering its performance in low-light situations and its versatility, I am more than willing to forgive shortcomings.

  • Crystal clear images
  • Fantastic color rendering
  • Vivid colors

  • Weighty front element

Best Telephoto Lens For Wildlife Photography

Best Telephoto
Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Lens

The lens packs a super Spectra coating lens element that suppresses flare and ghosting. It provides solid photo quality, even when shooting from hands.

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 has a tremendous diagonal angle of view of 34° – 8° 15′. The minimum focusing distance is 1,2 m, with a maximum magnification of 0,21x. Ergonomic-wise, it is essential to note the lens extends via the inner focusing mechanism.

I need to say I object to the focusing ring, which is quite loose, in my opinion, since I like the call to be much tighter.

On the other hand, the lens is shorter than different “L” series lenses, so you can easily pack it into the camera bag. It resists rain, dust, and other photographers’ enemies, which means it will be trustworthy under all reasonable conditions.

The ultrasonic focus motor does an extraordinary job of responsive focusing from a technical perspective and does virtually no hunting.

All the pictures I took with this lens come with a minimum amount of lens flare, even under direct sunlight. The details are excellent, with natural colors and quite good saturation.

Since the lens has a maximum opening of f/4.5, you will probably have to push the ISO value or mount a steady tripod to achieve sharp pictures in dim lighting.

  • Responsive focus
  • Natural colors
  • Rain and dust resistant

  • Focusing ring is quite loose

Best Macro Lens For Macro Photography

Best Macro
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Lens

Image quality from this lens is phenomenal. You will meet very sharp images with wonderfully creamy bokeh produced by its 15 elements.

Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 comprises 15 elements in 12 groups, with a 23.4-degree diagonal angle of view. The lens, in the matter, comes with USM and full-time manual focusing, while the closest focusing distance sets at 0,3 m with a maximum close-up magnification of 1x.

What is significant is the fact that the lens is the first Canon’s mid-range “L” series lens with sophisticated image stabilization.

I was delighted with this lens’s macro capabilities, although I had to tweak it with the focus system to get the perfect images. Regarding macro mode, I prefer to use manual focus under a live view to give me precise control.

The lens is weather-sealed, so you can take it outdoors to meet challenging environments.

Although it is heavier than other lenses in the EF category, the build quality is excellent, with lovely finishing touch and quality materials. Image quality is outstanding, with beautiful details and very sharp pictures, even at an f/2.8.

This lens allows you to stop down to 2.8, with a beautifully creamy bokeh but a very narrow depth of field, or go up the scale to enable more of your shot to be in focus.

  • Perfect images
  • Weather-sealed
  • Excellent build quality

  • A bit on a heavy side
