Getting the right answer is harder than it seems.

However, in this article, I will reveal what are the best Canon M50 lenses for you.

Best Lenses for Canon EOS M50

Although Canon M50 is an entry-level mirrorless camera, it still has a 24 Mpx APS-C sensor, DIGIC 8 processor, and 4K/24p recording.

Canon EOS M50 appeals to beginner photographers who are transferring from smartphones to mirrorless technology.

Of course, if one is making a transition, it should be done in style. So if you want to achieve excellent results truly, you should already make plans to replace M50’s kit lens with better gear.

Luckily, I have done thorough testing and picked the top five Canon M50 lenses for you to check out.

Best Prime
Sigma 30mm f/1.4 Lens

The build quality is superb since it is metal-made and feels rock-solid in the hands. Furthermore, the lens comes with a lens hood, which is an excellent addition.

Sigma 30mm f/1.4 is a large aperture high-speed lens, perfect for low-light situations. One of the first things I noticed is the focus ring that is much bigger and more tactile than the competition.

The lens in the matter is more prominent than other tested, though, yet the size indifference was not too significant.

The build quality is superb since it is metal-made and feels rock-solid in the hands. Furthermore, the lens comes with a lens hood, which is an excellent addition.

The image quality is fantastic, as well. Colors appear very bright and vivid, and the f/1.4 is incredibly lovely to shoot with at a 30 mm focal length. As an outcome, bokeh effects are mesmerizing.

The only downside I have found with this lens is that it does have chromatic aberration at the maximum opening, but this is easily fixed in post-production.

The professional tip would be keeping the aperture around an f/2 to an f/2.8, which seems to be the sweet spot when shooting outdoors. You will retain bokeh, and images will be sharp and with little to no chromatic aberration.

Autofocus is fast and accurate with this lens, even when shooting videos. For the price this lens comes at, it is a deal one shouldn’t miss as it is considered to be one of the best Sigma lenses for Canon M50.

  • Superb build quality
  • Lens hood included
  • Mesmerizing bokeh effect

  • Chromatic aberration at the max opening

Best Wide-Angle Lens For Landscape Photography

Best Wide-Angle
Canon 11-22mm f/4-5.6 Lens

The lens's focusing performance is impeccable, with a reasonably fast focus that does not hunt for a shot.

Canon EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 lens is constructed of 12 elements in nine groups, with a 102°10′ –63°30′ and an autofocusing system, offering a full-time manual. The closest focusing distance sets at 0,15 m and the maximum magnification of 0.30x at the telephoto end.

The lens has seven circular blades that help in achieving soft backgrounds. The lens does a superior job outdoors, which is its primary intention.

The limitations occur in dim light and at the minimum aperture. The lens also does get quite soft up near an f/22. I did notice a small amount of chromatic aberration in the far corners of a few high-contrast shots.

Image quality is satisfactory, with sharp details and preserved colors at all times, without unnatural color-shifting.

Of course:

It is not a prime lens, but the compromise between flexibility and sharpness works excellent with this optic.

Furthermore, I noticed that this lens achieves focus much faster than other  Canon M50 lenses in the price range.

Image stabilization is a great addition, despite that many photographers claim it is not a necessity with wide-angled lenses. Having the flexibility to move around in low-light without a tripod comes in handy more often than not.

All in all, for the price, you’re getting a fancy piece of technology that grants you wide angles on a compact camera.

  • Astonishing picture quality
  • Great low-light performance
  • Good build quality

  • Lens collapse switch can be annoying

Best All-Around Lens For Everyday Photography

Best All-in-one
Canon 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 Lens

Although it is far from "L" category lenses, it is much more compact and lighter, and in optical performance, it comes much better than the competition.

Canon EF-M 18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 has a diagonal view of 74°20′ – 27°50′. The lens provides a beneficial focal length in a compact and lightweight package. EF-M makes a perfect travel companion since it is very lightweight and compact.

It fits in the camera back easily, and it can handle most situations with ease. Optically, it is not an “L” series lens, but the performance it offers is quite good.

Pictures appear quite sharp all across the frame. Although the lens struggles a bit in the low-light settings, at an f/3.5, it gave good results, although it is not the best solution for videos due to its variable aperture.

With an extended range lens, the lens in matter s not the fastest lens out there, especially at the zoom end, but I’ve not had too many problems getting shots with decent lighting.

The auto-focus seems quick compared to my competition in the same range. The sharpness has been outstanding at all focal lengths, regardless of the aperture.

Image stabilization is incredibly useful, so even at 1/8s at 150 mm, I could get fantastic pictures. I would only like to object to a plastic mount and the lack of a hood and soft pouch.

However, since it offers a reliable performance all-around, I am willing to forgive it.

  • Very lightweight
  • Good image quality
  • Quite sharp across the frame

  • Plastic mount and lack of a hood

Best Telephoto Lens For Wildlife Photography

Best Telephoto
Canon 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 Lens
$349.00 $239.00

The best selling point of the lens is its versatility and ability to accomplish both small package weight and reliable performance.

Canon EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 is constructed of 17 elements in 11 groups with a diagonal angle of view of 27° 50′ –7°50′. The autofocusing system has an adjustment for a full-time manual, and the closest focusing distance is 1,0 m. The lens is relatively small and compact, considering its telephoto capabilities and focal length.

For comparison, it is much lighter compared to the “L” series lenses. From an ergonomic perspective, I like the zoom ring that operates smoothly and uses lens zoom range a pleasant experience.

One of the first things I noticed with this lens was the excellent contrast and color rendering that work provided me with perfect images. Pictures were of decent sharpness even at an f/4, but the quality improved even more at an f/6.3.

Image stabilization is a needed addition, however. Only with IS and tripod, I could capture concrete pictures of the night-sky or fast-moving objects. For everyday situations, however, calm hands and image stabilization are enough.

The broad focal range works quite well in capturing a variety of conditions. Because the lens comes at an affordable price and offers nearly a high-end performance, it is a great deal.

  • Reasonably sharp
  • Excellent image quality
  • Fine details

  • Limited to an f/4.5

Best Macro Lens For Macro Photography

Best Macro
Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Lens

The general image quality is outstanding, with beautiful and natural colors accompanied by high contrast. LED addition is useful.

Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 comes with a built-in Macro Lite that can supply light to photos in case of need. It helps a great deal in getting a better sense of depth and dimension.

The lens’s autofocus can focus at infinity in normal mode, and in macro, the magnification goes up to 1,2x. Furthermore, the lens has a hybrid image stabilization that reduces the camera shakes for a better handheld shooting experience.

Another great thing is the Stepping motor that enables smooth and silent autofocusing. The focusing system works in the utmost silence, so it is convenient for video recording as well.

I like that the lens is affordable and very compact, with an image stabilizer and built-in LED lights. The features in matter alone will help out beginning photographers.

The amount of detail is very high. It is easy to see many small details that would otherwise go unnoticed by the human eye, and even at a wide aperture, it’s very sharp. Colors are rendered beautifully and appear very bright.

I did not notice any fringing, even on high contrast subjects up-close. The fact it can be used as a standard lens and a macro can make it much more useful to photographers.

When all of this is considered, Canon 28mm f/3.5 might just be one of the best macro Canon M50 lenses.

  • Smooth focusing
  • High details
  • Excellent sharpness

  • Bayonet mount is plastic
