Best Prime

This is a prime lens that has a bright aperture that ensures dreamy and smooth bokeh effect and all images appeared tack-sharp across the frame.

Sony Zeiss 55mm f/1/8 has a mid-range focal length with a minimum focusing distance of 1.28 feet and a maximum magnification ratio of 0.16 x. It also has built-in optical SteadyShot image stabilization.

The relatively low f-stop of f/1.8 makes this lens an excellent portrait lens. I even stepped down at f/2.5 and f/2.8 and still got a creamy bokeh in the background with superior subject isolation.

This portrait lens also works well as a macro lens, so I created fantastic food images in the restaurant and some nice shots of minor bugs. There is no doubt that this lens does the best โ€“ it is close-up portrait photography.

The background blur is stunningly beautiful, and the subject isolation is on point. This lens can create fantastic portrait shots, even in low-light situations. The sharpness is incredible, too!

All of my pictures with this lens looked stunningly good without distortions or vignetting issues. The design is, as with most Sony A6100 lenses, quite good. It feels rock-solid, and it is a great lens when you consider everything.

Pros

  • Surreal color rendering
  • Vivid colors
  • Tack-sharp images

Cons

  • Lack of optical image stabilization

Best Wide-Angle Lens for Landscapes and Urban areas

Best Wide-Angle
Sony 10-18mm f/4 Lens
5.0
$899.99 $698.00

Sony 10-18mm f/4 is a wide-angle lens with a fast focus, edge-to-edge sharpness and it is versatile enough for most photographic situations.

Sony 10-18mm f/4 supports a minimum focus distance of 0.82 feet and has a maximum magnification ratio of 0.1x. You get a hood and front and back lens caps in the package box.

The frame is made of plastic, but the skin over it is made of metal, which adds to lens durability. The biggest downside of this gem is its price, which I find too much for an ultra-wide APS-C lens. But the bad things stop right there.

This lens exhibits outstanding performance in terms of overall sharpness across the frame, with minimal edge distortion. There are visible vignette issues at f/4, but it goes away when you step down a bit.

Also:

Vignetting evidence is present and barrel distortion for some shots at the widest 10 mm setting, but this can be resolved by adjusting to around 12 mm, depending on the subject. So to achieve a perfect image, you need to tweak around a bit.

The lens has built-in image stabilization, and I find it a tremendous helper, mostly when I shoot from a moving car. In dim light, it performs well, but you need to shoot at the widest opening.

I would love it if this wide-angle lens for Sony A6100 came with f/2.8 or more comprehensive, but I am willing to forgive it for its versatility.

Pros

  • Design
  • Image quality
  • Fast and accurate autofocus

Cons

  • Not weather-sealed

Best All-Around Lens For Everyday Photography

Best All-in-one
Sony 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Lens
5.0
$898.00

Sony 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 is an all-in-one lens with excellent optical image stabilization and smooth focus that captures stunning images.

Sony 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 has a high-magnification zoom and built-in image stabilization. The enormous focal range ensures both expansive and telephoto capabilities so that you will cover any scene.

The minimum focus distance is 0.3 m on the wide and 0.5 on the telephoto end. Although the versatile focal range allows one to frame almost anything, it comes with a cost.

The lens is large and heavy. Its weight can often surpass the importance of the camera body itself. The autofocus system is stable and reliable most of the time.

However:

I did notice focusing issues at times, especially in lowlight conditions. When talking about ergonomy, I must praise the zoom and focus control that works quite smoothly, and the zoom locking mechanism is handy.

The lens’s image quality is outstanding, with crisp details around the screen and a pleasing bokeh effect. Since this is a versatile zoom lens, one should not expect prime lens image quality.

However, the sharpness is quite good and is a minimal noticeable vignetting and barrel distortion. The optical image stabilization of this lens has come in handy quite often, and it was an enjoyable experience taking pictures with hands.

Pros

  • Excellent bokeh
  • Versatility
  • Superb sharpness

Cons

  • Large and heavy

Best Telephoto Lens For Wildlife Photography

Best Telephoto
Sony 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 Lens
4.0
$994.00

Sony 70-300mm f/4.5-5-6 is built with a nano-precision structure and an optical Steady-Shot for clear images and all details are tack-sharp.

Sony 70-350mm f/4.5-6.3 lens is zoomable with an excellent edge-to-edge resolution. Under the hood, it has an Xd linear motor for fast and accurate autofocus.

Of course, the lens also has built-in optical SteadyShot image stabilization, producing desirable results without a tripod. I was surprised when I first noticed how light this Sony Alpha lens was, considering its versatile focal length.

The lens is compact and fits well with A-series cameras. The general design of the lens is delicate, too. It feels reliable and robust and can take on almost any weather challenge.

Also, the lens locks are a big plus for travel photographers. The autofocus is more than fast, but it does not compare to some high-end telephoto lenses.

During the test phase:

I have gotten incredible images with this lens. All the pictures were tack-sharp, even at f/2.8 aperture, and the vignetting was minimum and only at 350 mm.

If you stop down a little bit, you can get even sharper pictures, but the results are barely noticeable, and I would say the f/8 is the absolute, usable minimum. Unfortunately, the teleconverter is not supported, so bear that in mind when purchasing this telephoto lens.

Pros

  • โ€‹Excellent edge-to-edge resolution
  • Fast autofocus
  • Reliable and robust

Cons

  • Teleconverter is not supported

Best Macro Lens For Macro Photography

Best Macro
Sony 90mm f/2.8-22 Lens
5.0
$1,098.00

Sony 90mm f/2.8-22 is a macro lens with a beautiful bokeh effect that delivers amazing images with rich details and it's worth the praise.

Sony 90mm f/2.8-22 is a perfect match for the A-series lens, with a great focal length and a very bright f/2.8 brightness. An instant manual or autofocus selection via a sliding focus ring bought me right off the bat.

The lens has a nine-blade circular aperture that achieves a gorgeous bokeh. The autofocus system works incredibly fast and with razor precision.

The excellent image quality impressed me the most, even in challenging light situations, such as late evenings or blue hours.

All the pictures I have taken with my hands came out quite well, and I am pleased since I do not like combining a macro lens with a tripod.

The auto-focus works fine, but I used the manual most of the time and was content with the outcome. From the ergonomic perspective, the lens feels good in hands, and the exterior is solid.

I did notice slight barrel distortion in some images, but it is expected, and the correction was easy to achieve. If you are searching for a combination of a macro and portrait lens for A6100, opt out for FE 90 mm, and you are good to go.

Pros

  • Modern design
  • Outstanding picture quality
  • Pleasing bokeh effect

Cons

  • Slower autofocus in low-light situations
