Sigma 56mm f/1.4 for EF-M Mount is a water and dustproof lens that packs a large lens hood for eradicating side spokes. The lens is designed to minimize flare and image ghosting.

It comes with a stepper motor responsible for progressive and silent focusing. Indeed, the focus system proved to be fast and accurate. It didn’t hunt nor missed shots under challenging lighting.

On the plus side, this prime lens for Canon EOS M5 is razor-sharp at the maximum aperture. Although I expected it from a fast prime, the results have surpassed my expectations.

The general image quality is exquisite: vivid colors, superior separations between subjects, and defocusing lines. The bokeh effect is beautiful.

An f/1.4 at 56 mm works excellent as a dedicated portrait lens. The contrast is super-high and well-distributed, with no overblown areas in the frame.

Best Wide-Angle Lens For Landscape Photography

Canon EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 is an excellent wide-angle lens that bought me right off the bat. I tried using the lens under severe weather conditions. The flare and ghosting controls were excellent under direct sunlight, and I captured pictures of the sun itself.

Also, the image quality of the 11 mm focal length was excellent. I wasn’t able to spot distortions in corners.

Distortion is insignificant, even wide open, and it delivers excellent results even when shooting at high ISO. Furthermore, color rendering is exquisite, with vivid colors and natural tones.

This lens feels solid in hands, and everything prompts at a beautiful construction and high Canon style build quality. Although it has a maximum aperture of f/4-5.6, it shoots at low light without problems, which is the case with all the EOS M lenses.

The general image quality is outstanding, as well. I tried shooting in various conditions and consistently achieved extraordinary sharpness, even at the maximum opening. I could also autofocus at distances as close as 12 cm in low light.

When I used the manual mode, I focused as close as 8 cm. Ergonomically; the lens offers a solid design with a manually retracting mechanism for more comfortable transportation.

Best All-Around Lens For Everyday Photography

Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 comes with Micromotor-type autofocus without full-time manual focusing. Despite that, it packs an optical image stabilization system that offers the equivalent of four stops of compensation.

The 28.8-88 mm is the equivalent focal length on Canon APS-C cameras, while the minimum aperture ranges from 22-38 in f-stops. The lens is made from polymer, so it would be difficult to damage it.

Although the lens is plastic, it feels good in hands with a plastic mount and does not give away a cheap feel.

The optical image stabilization is an excellent addition, counting on the relatively limited aperture. IS lets you slow the shutter down considerably to capture as much as 16 times more light.

The option in the matter, however, comes at a cost. IS will only be suitable for shooting still or very slow subjects. It does nothing for a moving subject. If you need to do that, you will need a prime lens.

The focusing system works reasonably well. It is not the fastest in the market yet it delivers decent results. Since it is silent, it works well for videos. The image quality is exquisite, with decent sharpness across the frame.

The contrast is satisfactory, while the edges are soft at 55 mm.

Still:

If you are looking for an all-in-one lens that works great when paired with the Canon EOS M5 camera, I highly recommend it.

Best Telephoto Lens For Wildlife Photography

Canon EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 lens is constructed with 17 elements in 11 groups, with a diagonal angle of view of 27° 50′ –7°50′. The focus adjustment supports autofocus with a full-time manual, while the closest focusing distance is 1 meter.

First and foremost:

I praise the zoom ring that operates exceptionally smoothly, and the camera range is versatile, with an excellent zooming range. This telephoto lens for Canon EOS M5 is light, small, and integrates well with the system.

The image stabilization works reasonably well. I achieved a substantial sharpness while shooting in dim light without a tripod. However, if you plan to take pictures above 150 mm in focal length, you should mount a tripod.

The image quality is superior compared to the competition. I got tack-sharp images without edge softness from 55 mm to 150 mm. Above that, I noticed small traces of edge softness, but they were not problematic.

Another awesome thing is the focusing system that surprised me with fast reactions and precision. It operated pretty well under dim lighting without causing issues in terms of hunting or unwanted blur.

From an ergonomic perspective, the lens is light and transportable, considering its telephoto category. Although costly, you will get a telephoto and walk-around lens in one piece for the money.

Best Macro Lens For Macro Photography

Canon EF-M 32mm f/1.4 has a reasonably bright aperture and close-up shooting option of up to 0,25x. Its seven blades in circular aperture ensure beautiful and soft backgrounds, while the fixed focal length brings fast responsiveness.

I mainly took pictures above an f/2, but at an f/1.4, the lens delivered tangible results in sharpness.

I have noticed chromatic aberrations at the maximum opening, but it didn’t bother me since it was easy to fix. The minimum focusing distance is short; if you stop at an f/16, you will be limited in lens capabilities for macro work.

The lens packs a beautiful deep convex front element in terms of design and feels solid in the hands. The lens is bulky but not too heavy, especially considering the front part is double the size compared to the competition.

Image quality is excellent, with razor-sharp images all across the frame, while the distortion is minimal. The lens is versatile and makes an ideal choice for low-light environments.

The color distribution and contrast levels are comparable to high-end lenses. My main negative remark is the lack of a weather-sealing option.

However:

Weighing the pros and cons, I would say the lens is a bargain due to its many top-notch possibilities at a reasonable price. It is one of the market’s best macro lenses for Canon EOS M5.
