Best Prime
Canon EF-M 32mm f/1.4 Lens

All of the pictures I have taken with this lens came out extremely sharp, significantly above an f/2 with beautiful and defocused backgrounds.

Canon EF-M 32mm f/1.4 lens has a bright maximum aperture and a 32 mm field of view, with close-up shooting up to 0,25x maximum magnification. The lens packs a circular aperture of seven blades that help in achieving smooth backgrounds.

As I have expected from a prime Canon M10 lens, EF-M 32 mm delivered extremely sharp pictures, especially at an f/2 and above. Shooting at an f/1.4 gives an outstanding performance under dim lights, yet I feel like the sharpness is not so good compared to a more narrow aperture.

The portraits were accompanied by a beautiful, dreamy bokeh effect, with clear separations from the main subjects. Although I noticed chromatic aberrations at the maximum opening, I was able to remove them quickly.

Color rendering and contrast could be referred to as the best in class. All of the colors came out professionally looking, with an outstanding representation of reality. The lens has a super neat looking deep convex front element, that along with other physical features adds to the visual presentation.

One of the lens’s drawbacks is its weight, which some would find considerable for a non-zoom prime. However, since it packs lots of glass and has an exquisite design, paired with serious performance, I don’t see it as a flaw.

I see a drawback: the lack of weather sealant that Canon has left as an exclusive of the “L” lenses. In every other regard, the EF-M 32 mm would be considered a professional Canon M10 prime lens.

Pros

  • Smooth backgrounds
  • Outstanding bokeh effect
  • Fast and reliable focusing

Cons

  • Slight chromatic aberrations

Canon EF-M 11-22mm f/4.5-5.6 is a versatile, flexible lens for Canon EOS M10 that produces very sharp images all across the frame. One of the best features of the lens is compactness, which shows a lightweight package that is easy to carry.

The M10 lens has outstanding optical image stabilization that comes in handy when one wants to capture interiors under dim lighting. I managed to take photos indoors with the help of the OIS without the use of a tripod.

The zoom range is handy for getting both perspectives and framing just right. However, the lens seems limited at the minim aperture since it gets quite soft up near an f/22.

Furthermore:

The chromatic aberration is present in corners, but it was easy to fix in Photoshop. I recommend this lens for anyone who has never had a wide zoom.

I took advantage of the versatile zoom and wide-angling to pull out compositions that take advantage of the depth of field and wide-angle of view to place things in the foreground and get the perspectives I wanted.

The design of the lens is solid. It feels good in the hand and has a decent finishing touch. In conclusion, it is an interesting wide-angle lens that is versatile enough for general use.

Pros

  • Astonishing picture quality
  • Great low-light performance
  • Good build quality

Cons

  • Lens collapse switch can be annoying

Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 has a vibration compensation system that helps stabilize the image in low-light situations or when one is shooting without a tripod.

The image quality is satisfactory, especially if you consider the broad zooming range. It offers a nice balance between wide-angle and telephoto shooting when you want to capture distant subjects.

All of the pictures taken with this lens appeared quite sharp and nicely saturated, without color shifting. The autofocusing system offers reliable performance, although it gives a hard time in difficult lighting situations.

Another positive thing regarding autofocus is the fact it operates in nearly complete silence. For testing purposes, I mainly used the manual mode that offered superior performance.

The lens comes with a hood that does a decent job of preventing flares and distortions. I could still notice distortion at 18 and 200 mm, respectively, but I quickly fixed it within Photoshop. The ergonomics of the lens are acceptable.

It feels quite good in hands, and the lens has a reasonable weight that will not crush your neck during long-lasting sessions. The zoom ring turns smoothly and relatively quickly.

Pros

  • Great image quality
  • Nice hood reduces flares
  • Modern and stylish design

Cons

  • Hunting issue in low-light

Best Telephoto Lens For Wildlife Photography

Best Telephoto
Canon 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 Lens

The best selling point of the lens is its versatility and ability to accomplish both small package weight and reliable performance.

Canon EF-M 55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 is constructed with 17 elements in 11 groups, with a diagonal angle of view of 27° 50′ –7°50′. The focusing distance is one meter with 52 mm of filter size. The lens in the matter is compact and, considering the focal length and versatility.

I would say it is pretty light. The lens has an excellent zooming option with a ring that operates smoothly and without causing any issues.

The optical image stabilization does a fine job of stabilizing images since I mainly did shootings without a tripod, significantly above the 130 mm of focal length. However, if your cup of tea is astrophotography, I highly recommend mounting a tripod.

The image quality is outstanding, as well. All of the pictures I have taken with this lens came out clear. Furthermore, the sharpness was present all across the frame, with no visible distortions.

The contrast appears very high, and the color rendering is on point, with vivid and well-saturated colors that still retain their natural appearance.

I did notice small traces of chromatic aberrations when I did shootings under the direct sunlight, but since they were easy to remove, I didn’t take it as a negative. The design is satisfactory, with lightweight and stylish lines.

Pros

  • Reasonably sharp
  • Excellent image quality
  • Fine details

Cons

  • Limited to an f/4.5

Best Macro Lens For Macro Photography

The general image quality is outstanding, with beautiful and natural colors accompanied by high contrast. LED addition is useful.

Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 features image stabilization constructed for EOS M digital cameras. It also has a built-in macro lite that supplies light to the images. The autofocus is capable of focusing at infinity in normal shooting mode and goes up to 1.2x magnification.

The hybrid image stabilization ensures the reduction of camera shaking for enjoyable handheld photography, while the stepping motor provides smooth and quiet operations.

One of the best things about this lens is the almost entirely silent autofocus that allows one to shoot videos without focusing. The lens itself is very lightweight and appears to be a light aluminum with a plastic mount, and in the package, it comes with a lens cap and lens hood.

Another exciting feature is the additional LED light that allowed me to achieve clear shots of close-up subjects.

When focusing up-close, this LED comes in handy a lot as you otherwise wouldn’t be able to light a subject. The maximum aperture is substantial, and I didn’t have any problems shooting in low-light conditions.

On the wrong side, I noticed the subject fringing under a particular light, yet, the images appeared sharp and filled with details all across the frame.

Pros

  • Smooth focusing
  • High details
  • Excellent sharpness

Cons

  • Bayonet mount is plastic
