Best Prime Lens For Portrait Photography
The pictures that this Sony lens produces are amazingly sharp with a beautiful rendering all across the frame and it has fantastic bokeh effect.
Sony’s 85mm f/1.4 lens uses a linear SSM focus system and packs one XA element combined with three ED elements. On top of that, there is a Nano AR coating. The lens, in the matter, has a minimum focusing distance of 2,79 feet for auto and 2,62 feet for manual focus.
The maximum magnification ratio is 0,13x, with an angle of view of 19 degrees. The pictures I achieved with this lens are amazingly sharp, with a beautiful rendering across the frame.
Even at an f/1.4 opening, pictures came out quite sharp. The bokeh effect is fantastic, which was expected since the matter’s lens is a fast prime.
The only issue with bokeh occurs if your subject is not in the very center of the frame. Sometimes, it will look like the focus is lost at the edges.
However:
It is not always the case; if you notice it, you are probably pixel-peeping too much.
Optical stabilization is an excellent distance. An 85mm focal length is long enough for optical stabilization to be more effective than the on-sensor one and complement the on-sensor one well.
The Autofocusing system is quite loud, so it can cause problems when shooting videos. On the other hand, manual focus is extraordinary, so it makes a nice compromise.
Pros
- Beautiful rendering
- Sharp pictures
- Fantastic bokeh effect
Cons
- Loud autofocus
Best Wide-Angle Lens for Landscapes and Urban areas
This lens provides high corner-to-corner resolution and produces beautiful images, it is small and light and very convenient for photographers.
Sony 12-24mm f/4 lens provides high corner-to-corner resolution, with a maximum magnification ratio of 0,14x.
The lens consists of four aspherical, three ED, and one super ED glass element, with a seven-blade circular aperture for bokeh effects. The lens has an angle of view of 122°–84°. Direct Drive Supersonic Wave motor that ensures responsive and silent focusing.
Sony FE lens is small and lighter, which is quite convenient for photographers who dislike tripods. One of the things I have noticed is the distortion of this lens, which can be removed in postproduction.
The f/4 aperture is not wide compared to wider openings, but you can still get lovely photos in dim lighting. This lens has superb sharpness virtually from edge to edge, even at 12 mm. I tested the lens at 16 mm but went to 14 mm for small and cramped spaces.
The quality of images from this Sony a7III wide-angle lens is excellent. It is easy to see sharpness from edge to edge at all focal lengths. Color rendering is lovely, and even though I tested this lens a lot in indoor activities, it is excellent for landscape work.
A zoom’s flexibility dramatically reduces the need to swap lenses in the field or move around to get the shot I want.
Pros
- Compact and light
- Superb sharpness
- Excellent image quality
Cons
- Small distortion possible
Best All-Around Lens For Everyday Photography
Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 is a full-frame standard zoom lens that is robust and feels wock solid while pictures it produces are too sharp and have beautiful color rendering.
Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 is a full-frame standard zoom lens with instant selection between auto and manual focus with a hold button. The minimum focusing distance sets at 0,38 meters, with an angle of view of 84-34 degrees.
The maximum magnification ratio is 0,24x. The lens packs two aspherical elements and an exact XA element for better resolution, while the nano AR coating improves clarity, contrast, and image quality.
The lens is robust and heavy and feels rock-solid. Pictures from this lens were too sharp, with beautiful color rendering.
The focusing system is high-speed and silent, which can be a great addition to videos. I like how the background melts away and the subject is isolated, which means that even a zoom lens can achieve a beautiful artistic feeling.
During portrait shootings, the lens feels like it is prime.
One of the best ergonomic features of the lens is a customizable button that allows photographers to set up all their features to speed up the workflow. One of the lens flaws is the distortion that occurs at an f/16 in the edges of the frame.
Furthermore, color-shifting happens more than expected if you change the lighting conditions.
Pros
- Build quality
- Sharp images
- Fast focusing
Cons
- Distortion at an f/16 in the edges
Best Telephoto Lens For Wildlife Photography
Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 an telephoto lens that produces incredibly sharp images and the bokeh effect is beautiful while offering many other cool features.
Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 is a lens that combines aspherical elements, Nano AR coating, and an 11-blade circular aperture for significant bokeh effects.
The lens sets the minimum focusing distance at 37,8 inches with a 0,25 maximum magnification. The lens’s construction is rigid and robust, especially considering the dust and moisture resistance. I was thrilled with the speed of this lens.
I was able to take shots of moving objects without any blur. The images I got with this lens are incredibly sharp, while the bokeh effect is beautiful.
The lens is one of the sharpest zoom lenses I have ever used, and when I used it at its best, it could easily defeat some prime lenses.
Optical image stabilization compliments the other performing features of the lens, and it did a great job in situations when I didn’t want to use a tripod.
Autofocusing is responsive and silent, and the constant focus distance is charming when zooming in on the subject. I have noticed some flaws in light fringing and chromatic aberration in very high-contrast scenes in RAW mode.
However:
It can easily be removed in postproduction. Furthermore, the zoom ring is too small and tight, which may annoy some users.
Also, the lens is quite heavy for its size, so bear in mind that you will probably need a tripod for prolonged use.
Pros
- Beautiful bokeh
- Silent autofocus
- Dust and moisture resistance
Cons
- Some amounts of fringing
Best Macro Lens For Macro Photography
Sony 90mm f/2.8-22 is a macro lens with a beautiful bokeh effect that delivers amazing images with rich details and it's worth the praise.
Sony 90mm f/2.8-22 combines a bright maximum aperture with Nano AR coating for effectively suppressing reflections.
The lens is dust and moisture-resistant with a minimum focusing distance of 0,28 m and a maximum magnification ratio of 1,0x. Direct Drive SSM focusing system ensures silent and precise focus, while multi-coating ED elements prevent flare and ghosting.
The lens packs a nine-blade circular aperture and optical Steady Shot image stabilization for handheld shooting. One of my favorite features of this lens is the instant selection sliding focus ring that allows fast shifts between auto and manual focusing modes.
The design of the lens is modern and stylish, with a rock-solid feeling in the hands. The lens is easy to use manually with a tripod. Picture quality is outstanding, and Sony did a great job with this lens, beating much more expensive Zeiss lenses.
Macro photography is excellent, especially in manual mode. Pictures appear incredibly sharp all across the frame. I mainly used it to capture small animals in the forest and was left breathless with the essential details.
The bokeh effect is very pleasing. Even at f16, you get nicely blurred backgrounds at close distances, while the color rendering remains super, no matter the lighting conditions.
Pros
- Modern design
- Outstanding picture quality
- Pleasing bokeh effect
Cons
- Slower autofocus in low-light situations
