best lenses for Sony A9

My wild guess would be that most of the Sony A9 owners are semi-seasoned enthusiasts and professional wedding and action photographers.

Sony has made its way into the DSLR area of expertise, with A9 being a mirrorless camera aimed at fast-paced actions.

Since the Sony A9 is a silent camera, it promises a lot in the field that favors quiet operations. A9 packs a 24 Mpx full-frame CMOS sensor, 20 fps continuous shooting with full AF, 5-axis image stabilization, and UHD 4k/24p recording.

The A9 is a great camera right off the bat. However, I presume that photographers who own this gear already wonder how to make it even better. If you continue reading the article, you will stumble upon the five best lenses that will take your A9’s game to the next level.

Zeiss Batis 85mm f/1.8 is a versatile, full-frame lens with excellent resolution and high contrast. The lens has a compact design that feels very good in hands.

Its metal construction is weatherproof and allows one to keep out dust and water, so the lens is suitable for challenging environments.

One of the first things I have noticed is an innovative OLED display from which you can read the field’s focus distance and depth.

It is an excellent addition to low-light environments. The autofocusing system is, as always, with Zeiss lenses extraordinarily responsive and accurate. I never faced any problems regarding focus hunting, nor I had issues with its performance under the low light.

During the testing, the lens in matter proved to be the best among the fierce competition. It rendered the stars of the night sky so sharply that I was stunned.

The bokeh effect is incredible since it is very rounded and defocuses the backgrounds quite smoothly.

However, one downside I noticed is the presence of a pronounced vignetting. On the other hand, pictures appear exceptionally sharp and with saturated and vivid colors.

Considering the lens’s premium package and the exquisite performance it gives, the lens is a must-have.

  • OLED display
  • Accurate autofocusing system
  • Good low-light performance

  • Presence of vignetting

Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 wide-angle zoom lens has two aspherical elements with high surface precision and a minimum focusing distance of 0,28 m. The maximum magnification is 0,19x, while the angle of view is 107°–63°, with 11 aperture blades for smooth, defocused backgrounds.

The lens package is premium, and the hood, lens front cap, lens rear cap, case included in the pack. One of the things I noticed right off the bat is the lens’s weight, which is considerable compared to other competing lenses.

Furthermore, the telescopic reverse-zoom takes some getting used to. On the other hand, the lens has precise, accurate, and responsive autofocus, and it provides an outstanding image quality.

The images taken at an f/2.8 and 16 mm are impressive. The lens takes so much light that I thought I had a fast prime in hands for the second.

Furthermore, the lens provides extraordinary image quality across the frame, with very sharp edges.

One of the downsides I must point is that the lens does extend when you use the wider end. Not a big deal, but it would have been nice to have that contained in the body.

  • Responsive autofocus
  • Great image quality
  • Premium package

  • Lens extend at wider end

Best All-Around Lens For Everyday Photography

Best All-in-one
Sony 24-70mm f/4 Lens
$898.00 $698.00

Sony 24-70mm f/4 has anti-reflective coating for minimizing flaes and it also showed great performance at all focal lengths in terms of sharpness.

Sony 24-70mm f/4 is a full-frame zoom lens with an angle of view of 84°-34° and the focusing distance of 0,4 m, while the maximum magnification sets at 0,20x.

The lens has seven aperture blades, and it uses an anti-reflective coating for glare reduction.

The lens in the matter is relatively small and compact, considering its considerable focal length. In terms of build quality and design, it shows decent results.

The lens feels good in hands with nice finishing lines and stylish design. Optical image stabilization is an incredible addition to the lens’s arsenal. It allowed me to shoot at slower shutter speeds with little motion blur.

The focusing system is pinpoint accurate, with no ghost hunting. One of the minor issues is the relatively narrow aperture, but even at an f/4, I didn’t see any depth of field focusing problems.

Another great thing is the overall sharpness I achieved all across the frame at all focal lengths. The only issues occur at 24 mm and 700 mm, but I could remove small flaws with postproduction. Furthermore, the vignetting is almost non-noticeable, and I am yet to notice color distortions.

One of the lens’s drawbacks is the price, but it is a bargain for the deal one gets with getting the lens.

  • Accurate autofocus system
  • Excellent image sharpness
  • Good build quality

  • Relatively narrow aperture

Best Telephoto Lens For Wildlife Photography

Sony 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 Lens

Sony FE 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 lens is a full-frame lens with Nano AR coating and optical Steady shot image stabilization.

The lens has two extra-dispersion low elements for reducing chromatic aberrations and a nine-blade circular aperture for silky smooth backgrounds. The close-up focusing is three feet, which is exceptional.

One of the best things regarding the lens is the presence of excellent optical image stabilization. I achieved excellent picture quality without using a tripod, and it works well for telephoto and macro shots equally well. Another great point is the superb image quality.

Lens flare is very well controlled, and I’ve not noticed any chromatic aberrations. The rendering of colors is satisfactory, with high contrast and natural, vivid colors.

The lens’s construction is exceptional and has a solid general design that feels robust and sturdy. It also has a nice finishing touch that is quite eye-pleasing. My only complaint is the stiffness of the zoom ring. Of course, the lens is quite heavy as well.

It also has a reprogrammable focus hold button and a zoom lock switch. The controller for auto and manual focus changes is convenient, and overall the lens is very ergonomic-friendly.

  • Excellent image stabilization
  • Superb image quality
  • Feels robust and sturdy

  • Stiffness of the zoom ring

Best Macro Lens For Macro Photography

Best Prime
Sony 50mm f/2.8 Lens

Sony 50mm f/2.8 proved to be one of the best lenses in macro category, it is moisture-resistant and has a stylish design with a focus-hold button.

11/29/2022 03:51 am GMT

Sony FE 50mm f/2.8 is a lens with 1:1 magnification and 0,16 minimum focusing distance. The angle of view is 47 degrees, and the lens packs a seven-blade aperture for stunning bokeh effects.

Its ED glass effectively compensates for chromatic aberrations. In terms of design, the lens is robust, reliable, and resistant to moisture.

It also has a focus-mode switch, focus range limiter, and focus hold button. Although the built quality is mostly plastic, the lens feels solid in hands and does not give a cheap feel. Unfortunately, the autofocus is not the fastest, and it can be inaccurate at times.

Besides, it hunts in low lighting conditions, and a way around this is to learn to use the autofocus limiter switch on the camera’s barrel.

The manual mode works extraordinarily well, and it is one of the selling points of this lens. The image quality is satisfactory. Pictures are rendered sharply even at an f/2.8, and I had no flaring issues when shooting in the sun and backlit photos, so it does its job.

Bokeh looks smooth, and colors and contrast are decent. Furthermore, I managed to get many good handheld macro photos without using a tripod, so the lens works well in that regard.

  • Manual focus mode works well
  • Sharp images
  • Smooth bokeh

  • Autofocus can be inaccurate at times
