best lenses for Fujifilm X-A7

Fujifilm X-A7 is a compact, beginner’s camera equipped with a 24 MPx APS-C CMOS sensor, a hybrid autofocus system with 425 autofocus points, and 8.5 phase-detection points.

X-A7 supports 4K/30p video capture, and it can shoot bursts at six fps with continuous autofocus while having a fully-articulating 2.76M dot 3.5-inch touchscreen.

What can be done to improve the performance of the lightweight, compact camera that fits into the pocket? A proper set of optics would be my answer! If you are looking for an affordable yet quality lens, you are in the right place. I tested around the lenses for Fujifilm X-A7 and made the final cut of the best five.

Best Prime
Fujinon XF 50mm f/2 Lens

The lens in the matter is the kind of lens you can carry anywhere since it is light and easy to transport. The autofocus system is fast and responsive.

Fujinon XF 50mm f/2 is a weather and dust resistant lens that operates in temperatures as low as -10 degree Celsius, making it a perfect choice for shooting in various conditions.

It packs a maximum magnification of 0.15 x with an angle of view of 31.7 degrees and a focus range of 39 cm. The filter size is 46 mm. The essential quality of the lens is the extraordinary level of sharpness.

All of the pictures taken with the lens in the matter came out looking spectacularly sharp.

The fast aperture allowed me to take incredible photos in the nearly whole night, thanks to the capability of cranking up the ISO value relatively high, without having to worry about shakes or slow response.

One of the things I don’t like is the crappy lens hood, which is easily solved with an aftermarket hood.

Here’s the conclusion:

If you consider all the factors, the lens is the clear winner of the category. Although it doesn’t have the fastest f/1.2 aperture, it is much lighter and smaller than the fastest primes.

The focusing is responsive and fast, and it is reasonably easy to land a shot without too much hunting. The finishing touch in terms of design is excellent, with a more prominent front and beautiful lines.

  • Fast autofocus
  • Great optical performance
  • Build quality

  • Aperture could be larger

Best Wide-Angle Lens for Landscapes

Best Wide-Angle
Fujinon XF 8-16mm f/2.8 Lens
$1,999.95 $1,499.00

One of the most delicate things about the lens is its compact design. On the other hand, the lens is quite heavy, but I am willing to forgive it for the performance it offers.

Fujinon XF 8-16mm f/2.8 is constructed of 20 elements in 13 groups. It has four aspherical and six extra-dispersion lens elements. Three of those elements are used for lateral chromatic aberration control.

The lens is weather-sealed at 11 points, and it can operate in temperatures as cold as -10 degrees Celsius. The lens is quite expensive, yet for users who need a high-quality lens that needs reliable light gathering capabilities in a wide-angle segment, it is wise.

I have noticed that there are virtually no distortions, and it is essential since its minimum focal length is 8 mm.

The focusing system is responding well, and it is entirely accurate. Furthermore, it doesn’t hunt for images, which I naturally expected from a given price range lens.

Picture quality is mesmerizing. All of the pictures I have taken with the lens appeared crispy-clear, with a stunning detail preservation level.

The sharpness remains the same, no matter the focal length, and the bokeh effects are surprisingly beautiful, mostly since the lens does not fall into the “fast” category.

It is also to pleasure to shoot under dim lighting, despite its somewhat limited narrow aperture. I managed to pull beautiful interior images with the lens, without a tripod and not perfect lighting.

  • Excellent performance
  • Great image quality
  • Beautiful color rendering

  • Quite heavy

Best All-Around lens for everyday photography

Best All-in-one

It also has a quick, responsive, and almost entirely silent autofocus. Colors appear very natural yet vivid, and the contrast is relatively high.

Fujinon XF 16-80mm f/4 consists of 16 elements in 12 groups, featuring an aspherical component designed to minimize field curvature and spherical aberrations.

It is essential to notice the lens is approximately 40% lighter than the competition to cause problems during all-day photo sessions. It also comes with an incredible possibility of providing six stops of optical image stabilization, with the ability to absorb vibrations from the camera shutter.

The OIS can detect whether the camera is mounted on a tripod or adjust the performance for impeccable image quality. I am very impressed with its low light performance and OIS capability.

I was able to take pictures without a tripod at an f/4 ISO 200 and 1/4th of a second and achieve incredible photos. It also has a quick, responsive, and almost entirely silent autofocus, essential for all-around street photography.

I especially like that the lens is weather-resistant since it makes working in dusty or wet conditions possible. The lens can withstand colds as low as -10 degrees Celsius.

Colors appear very natural yet vivid, and the contrast is relatively high. Although the aperture is limited, the optical image stabilization and higher ISO values compensate for it.

  • Impeccable image quality
  • Great low-light performance
  • Fast and silent autofocus

  • Limited aperture

Best Telephoto Lens for Wildlife Photography

Best Telephoto
Fujifilm XF 50-140mm /2.8 Lens

The lens is resistant to water and dust, and it can operate in low temperatures. The weatherproofing aspect is also very nice aspect.

Fujinon XF 50-140mm f/2.8 comes with an internal focus and focusing range of one meter to infinity in the whole zoom position, with one to three meters in an entire zoom position.

The maximum magnification is 0.12x at the telephoto end with a constant f/2.8 aperture. The lens is dust and water-resistant, with the ability to withstand low temperatures.

Optical image stabilization is superior, and it allowed me to capture stunning wildlife pictures without mounting a tripod. It is also fantastic in so many different low light situations where setting up a tripod is impossible.

Although 140 mm is not a true super-telephoto, it can satisfy most photographers’ needs who don’t need to take images in the savannah. Furthermore, it is possible to use a lower ISO value thanks to OIS.

One of the things I don’t like about the lens is the low magnification factor that doesn’t allow me to take a flower or a small insect. Another flaw is the weight of the lens.

Despite its reliable performance, the weight might deter users who like to travel lightly packed. The lens is also very smooth when zooming or focusing, and it is exceptionally well made in terms of design.

  • Sharp pictures
  • Vivid colors
  • Eye-pleasing bokeh effects

  • Autofocus can be noisy

Best Macro Lens for Macro Photography

Best Macro
Fujinon XF 80mm f/2.8 Lens

The optical image stabilization is incredible. It gained me five stops, and it came quite handy in shooting macro scenes.

Fujinon XF 80mm f/2.8 is constructed of 16 elements in 12 groups, including one aspherical and one super extra-dispersion lens.

The new autofocus system divides the focus lens group into the front and rear focus groups and drives them depending on the shooting distance with high accuracy. The lens equips an optical image stabilization that achieves five stops of image stabilization.

Angle and shift shakes are suppressed using a gyro and acceleration sensor that uses low ISO values without a tripod possible.

The lens is weather and dust resistant, with the ability to work in colds as extreme as -10 degrees Celsius. It is compatible with the XF 14x and XF 2.0x converters, and it has a minimum aperture of an f/22. My only objection to the lens is the fact it is quite heavy.

On the other hand:

Thanks to its different abilities, I am willing to forgive it. The sharpness of the lens is incredible all across the frame, no matter the aperture.

The focusing limit switch is helpful for close-up shots, and for many cases, back button focus plus manual focus is the best shooting option. Furthermore, thanks to its beautiful bokeh, the lens can be used as both portrait and macro lens.

  • Weather and dust resistant
  • Incredible sharpness
  • Beautiful bokeh

  • Quite heavy
