The Fujinon XF 56mm f/1.2 offers extraordinary sharpness when you shoot at f/1.2. Great lenses tend to deliver sharp images at wide openings, but this was something special.

The beautiful bokeh effect, paired with the sharpness, performed exceptionally well in low-light situations. It was vital for me since I wanted to use this lens for artistic photography, and it indeed produced excellent results in the late evenings.

The lens has an optical construction of 11 glass elements in eight groups. One remarkable thing about this lens is its apodization filter, which works like a neutral density filter. It does not impact color rendering but prevents the external light from overexposing photos.

This filter is not intended to reduce glare in the corners. Instead, it causes out-of-focus bits to have creamier and dreamier bokeh when shot wide open by smoothing out everything out of focus.

The overall image quality is stunning. I noticed fine details across the frame, while the subjects in the photos looked three-dimensional. This XF 56 mm is not so expensive compared to other lenses, yet it provides excellent value.

The Fujinon XF 8-16mm f/2.8 is a weather and dust-resistant lens, sealed at 11 points and built to withstand temperatures as low as 14 degrees Fahrenheit. It has 20 elements in 13 groups. At the f/2.8 opening, I achieved nice portrait shots, though close-ups are not the primary task of this lens.

The images appear exceptionally sharp and crispy. What surprised me was the quality of night-sky photos I could get with this lens. I am yet to notice distortions or aberrations at 8 mm.

The complete focal length of this lens is excellent for achieving superb images of nearly everything. Color rendering is excellent. All of the colors appear natural and well-saturated. The focusing system is fast and responsive and did not disappoint, not even once.

Unfortunately:

The lens is massive, and in terms of size, it looks like a glove for some smaller lenses. Furthermore, it does not support filter attachments. The lens price is relatively high, but it is a worthy investment since you get an extraordinary gem.

With a wide focal length and angle of view of 76.5 – 29 degrees, Fujinon XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 is an excellent all-around lens. It is constructed of 14 elements in ten groups, with a focus range of 0,6 m in the whole zoom position. For photography enthusiasts, this camera is a great choice. It is made primarily from metal with etched markings, and the exterior feels exceptionally well-built.

The lower f-stops relative to similar lenses are one of its hallmark advantages. You can get a nice image at the widest opening, but the sharpness is not so good.

If you step down to an f/5.6, you will get an extremely sharp image. The focal length is comprehensive and allows one to shoot anything, from street and landscape to artistic and portrait photography.

The focusing ring works smoothly, while the aperture ring is notched and clicks accurately. One thing worth mentioning is optical image stabilization, which is useful when you want to shoot without a tripod or if the light is terrible.

I have attempted to make videos, and the stabilization influenced the quality much more than I expected.

Fujinon XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 is a water and resistant telephoto lens built to endure cold temperatures. The lens has a removable tripod mount and 21 elements in 14 groups. The focusing range is 1,75 m, and the maximum magnification sets at 0,19 x. I could reach out and get excellent fine details of faraway objects.

The optical image stabilization helps stabilize the shot when I do not want to use a tripod. The focusing system does quite an excellent job, no matter what shutter speed I use.

Low-light photography with a moderate ISO still renders extraordinary results with little background noise. The images at 400 mm focal length are tack-sharp in the center, which is the most important for a telephoto lens.

There is a focus distance limiter switch, which locks the lens at 100 mm for carrying it around, so the autofocus system won’t “hunt” over the full range of the lens.

In terms of design:

The lens is beautiful and prominent. Its weight is considerable, but it isn’t essential when considering all the lens capabilities.

Fujinon XF 80mm f/2.8 is the lens optically constructed of 16 elements in 12 groups. Right off the bat, I recognized the true beauty of this lens – its ability to deliver extremely sharp images. I have found that the manual focus works the best for this lens, while the focus limit switch helps for close-up shots.

The optical image stabilization is incredible. It gave me five stops, and it came in handy in shooting macro scenes. It can also achieve lovely portraits with beautiful bokeh. Images are crispy, with high contrast.

Color rendering feels natural with nicely saturated photos. The autofocus system is responsive and accurate for the majority of the time. However, I used manual focusing for the best results, which worked flawlessly.

The wide aperture opening allowed me to get decent shots even when the dark had set it. The lens’s general design is satisfactory. The built quality is excellent. Since the lens is weather-resistant, it will be easy to carry it in the forest for wet photo sessions.

It was an exciting experience to take the Fujifilm X-E3 for a test. Fujifilm did quite an excellent job of manufacturing this camera. The absence of a built-in flash lifted the camera’s weight while leaving an option to have an external light source.
